About the Principal
Mrs. Eileen O'Neill Carty
Eileen O'Neill Carty has served in a variety of teaching and administrative roles during her seven years at Gwynedd. Most recently as Dean of Student Affairs, she oversaw the development of programming that encompasses the whole Gwynedd student experience. She was instrumental in the implementation and success of the Monarchs in Motion schedule, which was introduced for the 2021-2022 school year.
As a Gwynedd faculty member, Eileen served as Social Studies Department chairperson, writing curriculum, establishing a process for faculty evaluation, and teaching AP and Honors courses; and she also co-chaired the Middle States school accreditation review.
Prior to coming to Gwynedd, Eileen worked for several years with the Upward Bound Program, a national college preparatory program serving underprivileged adolescents, where she taught mathematics, language arts, history, and SAT preparation. For the following fifteen years, Eileen was an educator at two independent college preparatory, single-gender, secondary schools: Xavier High School in New York, NY and Aquinas High School in Bronx, NY. In addition to teaching, Eileen also chaired the NYSAIS evaluation and school accreditation process, served as a mentor for new teachers, and moderated student activities.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Political Science from Fordham University, a master’s degree in History from Hunter College, and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Educational Leadership at Villanova University, with completion expected next year.
