Uniforms
By choosing to attend Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School, each student has agreed to wear the school uniform as described below. The uniform builds a sense of community and minimizes distractions. Parents are asked to support their daughter in complying with the uniform code.
Fall / Spring Uniform
The fall/spring uniform consists of a white banded bottom polo shirt with emblem, light blue kilt or uniform pants, navy socks or tights and traditional loafers in burgundy or black (see Bass® or Eastland®). This uniform should be worn prior to November 1st and after April 15th.
- Flynn & O’Hara will now offer the V-neck button-down cardigan with the Gwynedd logo. Students have identified that this is easier to take on and off throughout the day when the weather is changeable (Sweatshirts will not be an option).
- Flynn & O’Hara will also offer solid navy-blue leggings which are allowed on yellow days. Students may purchase leggings from other places, but they must be solid in color and must be long enough to meet the sock.
- Navy crew socks will also be sold at Flynn & O’Hara and are an option for yellow days. Again, students may purchase these from other places, but they must be solid blue. A brand logo may be visible but must be of the same color.
Winter Uniform
The winter uniform consists of a navy blazer with emblem, navy sweater, white button-down shirt, plaid kilt or uniform pants, navy socks or tights and traditional loafers in burgundy or black (see Bass® or Eastland®). This uniform should be worn between November 1st and April 15th.

Each school day will be assigned a color that will indicate to students the uniform description that applies for a given day. The color days will be noted on the school calendar on the website as well as on the daily Student Council Instagram posts informing students of the daily events.
RED = Formal Uniform: all Liturgy days as well as for special guests or events
YELLOW = Standard Dress: for all regular school days
GREEN = Dress Down: for Final Fridays and/or special theme days
Some Reminders:
These items are not new, these are restatements of language already in the Student Handbook. Please note, while we acknowledge that hair color and piercings are a form of expression for some students, we are balancing your desire for expression in this manner with preparing for life outside of Gwynedd and the importance of following a dress code.
- Skirt length will be enforced. The general guideline is no more than 3 inches above the knee. In practice we tell students to use their school ID card, which is roughly three inches, to get an idea of the appropriate length. This means that some students may need to buy a new kilt or summer skirt. If you had your skirt hemmed short and cannot let down the hem, you will need to purchase a new skirt. If a student chooses to wear shorts under her uniform skirt, they must be solid black or dark blue compression or Soffe® shorts.
- Students are not permitted to wear facial rings of any type (only earrings).
- Students may dye their hair black, brown, blonde, or red (including subtle highlights) but are not permitted to have extreme colors or have half and half hair color.
Parents should send an explanatory note if a student is unable to wear her uniform on a given day. An excuse pass will then be issued by the Dean of Students. A doctor's certificate is required for the extended use (more than one day) of anything other than the regulation shoe. If a student needs to wear a sneaker for an extended period of time (more than a week) the color of the sneaker must be black.
Unless directed otherwise, girls representing Gwynedd Mercy in extra-curricular activities (either as participants or spectators) are required to wear the school uniform.
On occasions such as field trips, when the uniform is not worn, the moderator will determine student dress norms.
